Tepic is the capital of the state of Nayarit. It's not really on international tourists' radar, although there are some touristic places within the state. It's around 3 hours by bus from Guadalajara, and Tequila is between the two cities (although no direct buses between them).
It's not a big city so a day trip is possible. Uber is available so it's quite easy to get around.
