Las Pozas, Xilitla, San Luis Potosí, México

Writer's picture: Maestro ProfesorMaestro Profesor

Las Pozas, "the pools" in English, is a surrealist garden built by English poet Edward James, alleged unacknowledged bastard son or grandson of HM King Edward VII. James was bisexual, an Etonian and Oxonian, and was most famous for being a patron of surrealist arts.

He initially built the garden after the Garden of Eden as his personal zoo. It's near the magical town of Xilitla, around 8-9 hours from Mexico City. It's also accessible from Ciudad Valles, San Luis Potosí, as well as the state capital of Querétaro. From the city centre, it's around 30 minutes on foot going mostly downhill.
